Where Do You Currently Store Your Toothbrush?

Posted on 3/15/2018 by Sean Saghatchi
Toothbrush Newport Dental Group CA 92627Do you keep your toothbrush out on the counter of your bathroom, like a good number of other people do? This is not the best place to store your toothbrush.

Even if you have it stored inside of a container, this could still result in you using a toothbrush that has a lot of germs on it.

The best place to store your toothbrush is in an open container within your medicine cabinet. This way, you protect it from as much debris and as many germs as possible.

The Dangers Associated with Storing Your Toothbrush on the Counter

It is never a good idea to store your toothbrush on the counter. This exposes your toothbrush to a wide range of debris and bacteria. Each time someone walks through your bathroom, they kick up dust, which can settle on your toothbrush. This is especially true when you have a damp toothbrush.

Each time the toilet gets flushed in the bathroom, that sends out debris from whatever was in the toilet at the time. That bacteria also lands on your toothbrush, which you then put in your mouth. This is not a good idea and could result in you getting incredibly sick. You should also store your toothbrush out of the way.

You want it exposed to as little bacteria and debris as possible. To keep yourself healthier, you should sterilize your toothbrush at least once per week by pouring boiling water over it, soaking it in peroxide and rinsing it before use, or putting the head of your toothbrush on the top rack of your dishwasher.

This keeps the bacteria down and keeps you healthier. For more tips on keeping your toothbrush clean and sanitary, come in and ask us at your next dental checkup.
