Biting Down on Your Teeth Should Not Hurt

Posted on 2/25/2019 by Sean Saghatchi
Biting Down on Your Teeth Should Not HurtIs it normal to experience pain occasionally when biting down? Is this just part of having adult teeth, or a sign of something more serious to consider treatment for?

Early Warnings
Your teeth should never hurt when you bite down. When it does, that is an advance indicator of hidden dental problems plaguing your mouth. Ranging from the critical to the mild, you may be suffering from any number of treatable issues that we can help assuage.

Dental health issues may be caused by poor oral hygiene or infection, leading to cavities and gum disease. Sudden sources of pain may be from injury, whether recent or just recently acting up, or other trauma to the mouth. For long term issues, improper seating of your jaw bones or teeth may be the culprit, or you may be one of the many people who unconsciously grind their teeth.

Early Dental Treatments

Regardless of the source of pain, there are many solutions that can be tailored to your needs. For tooth care and dental health issues, cleaning and following proper hygiene routines may be recommended. For more severe disease and damage fillings, root canals, or extraction may be needed. For issues that have affected you for a longer period of time over your life, braces, bridges, and other long term care appliances may be necessary.

Regardless, the cure will definitely be better than allowing the problem to continue. Everyone's mouth is different, so if you are suffering from pain when you bite down, we will work with you to ease the symptoms and treat the cause. Don't let an aching mouth ruin your ability to smile, give us a call today to set up your appointment and prepare to go home afterwards with a healthier, happier set of teeth!
