How Long Does it Take to Adjust a Dental Crown?

How Long Does it Take to Adjust a Dental Crown? If you need a dental crown, you may be wondering how long the procedure takes. Typically, the process takes two appointments, each of which is fairly short in duration. Fortunately, with a beautiful new crown that looks just like your natural teeth, the time spent in our dental office is well worth it.

At Your First Dental Appointment

Your first dental appointment will be the longer of the two. It involves preparing and shaping the tooth to receive the crown, and then we'll take an impression. This impression is what is sent off to the dental laboratory so a perfectly-sized crown can be produced. At that time, we'll place a temporary crown onto your teeth, and the whole process can take anywhere from 30-60 minutes.

About two weeks later, you'll come back for your second appointment. During this time, a dental laboratory will have fabricated your permanent crown, which we will cement into place. You are usually in a n out of our office pretty quickly, as we can usually finish this step in less than 30 minutes.

Dental Crown Adjustments

In some cases, your dental crown may need to be adjusted. Your crown should feel natural to the point where you don't notice it. However, if you feel pain or sensitivity when you eat or bite, or if the crown doesn't seem to fit properly, please let us know.

We can inspect the crown for signs of wear or damage, and if none exist, we'll simply refit the crown to better accommodate your mouth. Again, this process is relatively quick, unless the problem is a result of further decay or another dental issue. In these cases, we will have to treat the problem before refitting your crown.

Whether you have a problem with an existing crown or you need a new crown, give us a call today to set up your appointment.
