You Need to Care For New Dental Crowns Gently When They First Get AppliedIf you have just gotten a new crown, congratulations! We are sure that your new crown looks much better than the cracked or chipped tooth it is covering. We bet you have been chewing on one side of your mouth for weeks, right?

So now that you have your new crown, do you know how to take care of it? There are ways that you can make sure your crown lasts as long as possible. Keep reading to find out what to do to make sure your crown stays in mint condition.

Taking Care of New Crowns

In order to take care of new crowns, you need to be sure you are practicing good dental health practices. Be sure you are brushing and flossing twice a day. Make sure your teeth are getting their full two minutes of brushing each time you brush. Flossing in between teeth helps rid the teeth of plaque and keeps them as clean and shiny as possible.

Take extra care when flossing around your crown for a couple of days, however. Also, make sure that you are visiting our office twice a year for checkups so they can check on your crown to make sure that it is doing its job, and that there has been no slippage or problems with how the crown is cemented.

Also, be gentle with the crown. Do not try and open bottles with your mouth. Don't chew ice, hard candies or other foods that might break your crown. If you are an athlete, wear a mouth guard to protect against trauma.

Still have questions? Why not get hold of us today, and let us answer those questions for you? We know that we can help you make sure your crown is in great shape for years to come. Give us a call today!
